Sky-Web Safety Systems: Passive Fall Protection Built into Your Roof

When it comes to building safety, fall protection on the job site isn't just smart—it's required. But what if your building could be designed with fall protection already built in?

Enter the Sky-Web® Safety System, a passive fall protection and insulation support system designed for pre-engineered metal buildings. It’s a smart, efficient way to keep workers safe during construction while adding long-term performance benefits to your roof system.

What Is Sky-Web?

Sky-Web is a nylon mesh safety net system installed over the secondary structural members of a metal building’s roof. Think of it like a "web" that catches workers and tools during construction—all while doubling as a support system for insulation.

This innovative system allows workers to move freely without the need for tie-offs in interior roof bays, making it both a passive fall restraint and a long-term insulation support solution.

Dual Purpose: Safety + Insulation Support

  1. During Construction:
    • Provides interior fall protection without harnesses or lanyards
    • Reduces jolts and injuries from traditional tie-off systems
    • Boosts job site efficiency by eliminating tangled safety lines
  2. After Construction:
    • Stays in place as permanent insulation support
    • Prevents sagging or displacement of fiberglass blanket insulation
    • Helps maintain the designed R-value of your roof system

Key Features of Sky-Web II

Sky-Web II® is the latest evolution of the system, offering even more versatility and ease of installation.

  • Knotted nylon mesh on a 2-3/4" by 2-3/4" grid
  • Made from DuPont™ Type 6-6 nylon twine
    • #21 twine: 205 lb tensile strength
    • #30 twine (edge): 265 lb tensile strength
  • Mesh-to-mesh connections made with braided #36 nylon cord (350 lb tensile strength)
  • Lightweight: just 0.012 lb/sq ft
  • White mesh blends with insulation facings for clean interior look

Easy Installation

  • Delivered with all necessary hardware and instructions
  • Attaches to secondary roof framing with steel V-straps and self-drilling screws

  • Reviewed by OSHA and deemed compliant for interior fall protection when installed correctly
  • Flame Spread Index: ≤ 3
  • Smoke Developed Index: < 10 (UL 723 tested)
  • Still requires perimeter fall protection and tie-offs during mesh installation

Sky-Web Benefits for Builders and Owners

  • Increases construction safety and speed
  • Reduces injury risk during erection
  • Provides permanent insulation support
  • Helps preserve energy efficiency by holding insulation in place
  • Minimizes the need for separate banding or netting systems

Common Questions about Sky-Web

Q: Does Sky-Web replace all fall protection?
A: No. While it covers interior bays, OSHA still requires perimeter tie-offs.

Q: Can it be added to any roof?
A: It works with most standard pre-engineered metal roofs but not hips or valleys.

Q: What happens after construction?
A: Sky-Web II stays in place as part of your roof system, supporting insulation for the life of the building.

Q: Is it code compliant?
A: Yes—when installed per manufacturer instructions, it meets OSHA standards for fall protection.
